Dr. Joshua T. Petersen

Dr. Joshua T. Petersen was born and raised in Rapid City, graduating from Stevens High School. After high school Dr. Petersen went on to further his education at the University of South Dakota, competing in the decathlon on the USD Track and Field Team. He graduated with honors, earning his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science in 2015. Dr. Petersen knew from a young age that he was interested in dentistry, having years of orthodontic work, his visits always piqued his interest. His dreams came true when he was accepted into the University of Nebraska College of Dentistry where he graduated in the upper ranks of his class in 2019. After school Dr. Josh pondered moving to a big city but couldn’t resist being at home with friends and family and being able to do all of the things he loves to do in the Hills. One meeting with Dr Criss and it was a match as he began working at HillsView Dental right after graduation. Dr. Petersen purchased the practice from Dr. Criss in 2022 with the intention of keeping all the same values intact that Dr. Criss established over many years.

Dr. Petersen enjoys providing the highest level of care to his patients and establishing connections with all existing and new patients. His practice encompasses all levels of dentistry including routine fillings, same day crowns, extractions, clear orthodontic aligners, root canals, implant dentistry, and pediatric care. He enjoys the challenges dentistry provides and the steady blend of being a healthcare professional that also involves a bit of artistry. His greatest joy if being able to help get people out of pain and to provide a smile people can be proud of.

In his spare time Dr. Petersen can be found being active in many rec league sports, spending his summers at the lake and on the golf course, and his winters skiing and hunting. He is an avid supporter of the YoungLife organization and supporting the youth in Rapid City

Sherril Morgan – Practice Administrator

Sherril comes from a military family and grew up in Rapid City, as her father was stationed at Ellsworth AFB. She attended SD School of Mines & Technology, and also Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education. After teaching and living in Ohio for several years she returned to Rapid City to raise her family here in the beautiful Black Hills. She has three daughters: Hannah and her husband, Dalton, live and work in Rapid City; Abigail and her husband, Shane, live in Houston while Abigail attends Optometry school; and Rebecca is completing her master’s degree in Phoenix, Arizona, at Grand Canyon University. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends from her church, and especially her first grandchild, Weston.

Sheila – Patient Coordinator

Sheila grew up in Hayti, South Dakota, and graduated from Hamlin High School and Dakota State University with a Degree in Travel. She began working at HillsView Dental in April of 2012. She enjoys camping, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. She has been married to her husband, Bob, for 40 years. They have three daughters and six grandbabies. She loves visiting with patients, hearing their stories, and building relationships with them.

Sonya – Clinical Coordinator

Sonya grew up in New Hampshire and graduated from National American University in February of 2019 with an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management with Coding. Sonya married her husband, Denis, in 1990 and moved, through the military, to South Dakota. Before joining HillsView in November of 2018 she worked in the medical field for 18 years. She enjoys gardening, planting flowers, relaxing at the lake (jet skiing and kayaking), and social gatherings with friends. She and her husband have three wonderful kids: Brandon, Shelby, and Brittany. She also has four grandbabies: Zain, Owen, Greyson and Hadley. She enjoys visiting with all the patients and working with a wonderful crew of professionals.

Kelly – Registered Dental Hygienist

Kelly graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2006 with a degree in dental hygiene. She has been working in the dental health field for over 30 years and has been a part of the HillsView Dental team since 2003. She loves providing caring, compassionate, and high-quality dental care to patients of all ages and building close relationships with everyone. Outside of the office, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and hiking in the hills.

Kristina – Registered Dental Hygienist

Kristina graduated from Community College of Denver and has been a registered dental hygienist since 2002. She joined HillsView Dental in May 2019. She started working in the dental field in 1998 at her childhood family dentist in Lafayette, Colorado. She moved to the Black Hills area over fifteen years ago with her husband and two boys. Kristina is passionate about ensuring that patients are comfortable and informed during their dental visit and is committed to building trust and friendship with each patient. In her spare time, Kristina enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses, and raising cattle on their ranch.

Katlyn – Registered Dental Hygienist

Katlyn graduated from Sheridan College with a degree in dental hygiene in 2018. She joined HillsView Dental this year and she loves working as a hygienist and building relationships with her patients. She believes that education, communication, and trust are very important in helping patients with their overall dental health. Outside of work she enjoys riding dirt bikes, hiking, and most of all spending time with her family (including her two German Shepherds).

Savannah – Dental Assistant

Savannah has lived mostly in Rapid City, but is originally from Arizona. She graduated from high school in Arizona in 2013, completed radiology schooling in 2016, and took the DANB, becoming certified in November of 2020. She joined the office in August 2016She and her husband Drew have been married since June 2022. She has one son, Grayson, and two daughters, Harlee and Addi. They spend most of their time outside together, as long as the weather is warm. She loves getting to know all of the patients and making them feel comfortable in the office. She also enjoys helping people gain confidence with their smile.

Jolene – Dental Assistant

Jolene is originally from Pierre, SD, but has made Rapid City her home for the past ten years. She started her dental career in pediatric dentistry and joined HillsView Dental in 2022. She enjoys bowling and spending time with her husband, Matt, and son, Clayton. She loves meeting new people each day and hearing their unique stories, while helping them feel comfortable in the dental office.

Victoria – Dental Assistant

Victoria moved to Rapid City from Wyoming and joined HillsView Dental in 2021. She graduated from assisting school in 2019. She enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family and friends and her two dogs. What she loves most about dentistry is helping people feel at ease in the dental chair, creating a welcoming environment for them, and helping them love their smile.
